Upavon Centenary
celebrations will take place on Sat 23rd June 2012. This of course will be the
Longest Day event as well, we hope that lots of former Wyvern members will
be able to join us.
Normal gliding day with some invited dignitaries to join us to fly.
Hot & Cold Food & Cream Teas served during the day.
The gliding maybe interrupted with various flypasts by various
aircraft.
Plan for the Centenary Event
Tri Service balloons lift off from the airfield at sunrise & in the evening if weather permits.
John Hull will be Duty Instructor and Dawn Hadlow the Duty Pilot
Normal Wyvern / ATC gliding Ops but a briefing will be given by John Hull and Neil Thomas at 09:00 that will include procedures for stoppages for flypasts by aircraft such as The Red Arrows, BBMF, Spitfire, Hunter, Hawk & Tucano.
Pilots must have received a briefing before they fly if they miss the 09:00 main brief.
Neil Thomas and John Hull will publish an Operations Order for the day.
Gerry Sturgess will perform a glider aerobatic display (weather permitting)
Visiting a/c will include 3 x SE5As and 2 x Austers & the Army Historic Flight (all static for the day) & will depart during the afternoon / evening as appropriate.
Invitees will include 15 teenagers from Upavon village who will fly one flight each for £10, split into 2 groups (am & pm); one K21 to be allocated specifically for BI flights.
The Trenchard Museum might be open for viewing.

Gliding ops will finish in time for everyone to get changed & meet in the Officers Mess for 1900.
Formal Dinner:
To be held in the Offs Mess in conjunction with the Air Training Corps (ATC).
Tickets open to Wyvern and ATC (including friends & family) in advance but from the 1st May will be offered to the local community.
Tickets will include a 5-course meal (including arrival drinks, wine & port), pianist and disco until 1.30am.
Dress code is mess dress for servicemen, black tie for gentlemen & long or cocktail dress for ladies
Timings:
1900: Arrival drinks in the Mess Garden & a fly past by the Army Historic Flight (weather permitting).
History boards of Upavon will be available for viewing in the Mess Foyer.
Photographer available to take ‘summer ball’ style photos £5 each with no obligation
1945: Guests move into the Dining Room
2000: Dinner is served
2200: Historical presentation by Tim Dutton and speeches by Paul and VIP guest as appropriate
2230: Vacate the Dining Room & occupy the bar or quiet room. The Disco will be in an adjoining room (not the bar as in past events)
Formal Dinner in the Trenchard Lines Officers Mess ~ cost £45 per head
